“Without law there is no cinema.” This is how dozens of people, including professionals, technicians and students of the seventh art, expressed themselves this Wednesday in front of the National Congress to express their rejection of the possible elimination of incentives for beneficiaries of the film industry, established in the National Film Law ( 108-10), as proposed by the Government for fiscal transformation.
«They want to remove articles 34 and 39 from the law, and all of us who are here benefit from that. They want to take away cinema from us and a country without cinema is a country without culture. And we are here to be heard,” said one of the protesters.
Last week, the Dominican Association of Film Professionals (Adocine) He asserted that if the incentives for the film industry, contained in the aforementioned regulations, were repealed, the country would lose 30 thousand jobs and some 375 formal companies would close their doors.
Hans Garciapresident of Adocine, said that this Government provision would also kill the dream of thousands of students studying film at different universities, who would have nowhere to work when they finish their university studies.
“But not only that, but the Government would be losing the opportunity to receive money from foreign investment, as a result of films made in the country,” said García, during an informative assembly with all members of the film industry.
