Victor Prado Saldarriaga was appointed, as he announced Peru21new president of the Permanent Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court after the dismissal of César San Martín Castro as supreme judge due to age limit.
In administrative resolution No. 470-2025-P-PJ, issued today, the departure of San Martín is noted, upon turning 70 years of age, and the new reorganization of the supreme chambers is established.
Prado, who presided over the Transitory Criminal Chamber, now moves to the Permanent Chamber as dean of the supreme judges. And his previous position will be occupied by Jorge Salas Arenas, former president of the National Elections Jury (JNE).
The magistrate became head of the Supreme Court at a critical stage for this State power, after the uncovering of the shame audios, in 2018, which exposed the criminal organization Los Cuellos Blancos del Puerto.
The 66-year-old supreme judge was also a member of the court that in 2009, with San Martín at the head, sentenced former President Alberto Fujimori to 25 years in prison for the Barrios Altos and La Cantuta cases.
