The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR), through the resolution 93/2024granted precautionary measures in favor of the former military man Víctor Boitano Coleman, detained by the dictatorship of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo since last April 23.

The precautionary measures in favor of Boitano Coleman were granted, according to the IACHR letter, “after considering that he is in a serious and urgent situation since his rights to life and personal integrity face a risk of irreparable harm in Nicaragua.” .

Boitano Coleman, a retired soldier from the Nicaraguan Army, noted the IACHR, “his whereabouts are unknown since his arrest on April 23, 2024.”

The IACHR noted that Boitano Coleman “was violently arrested in his home by plainclothes, armed police officers, without a court order” and “the state authorities did not provide official information about his whereabouts or his state of health.” current”.

Dictatorship remains silent before the IACHR

The organization that promotes human rights in the American continent said that although it had requested information, since last November 25, about the situation of Boitano Coleman from the State of Nicaragua, it “did not provide information,” so it requested that ” “adopt the necessary measures to determine the situation and whereabouts of the beneficiary, in order to protect his rights to life and personal integrity.”

In addition, he urged that it be reported whether Boitano Coleman “is in the custody of the State, the circumstances and conditions of his detention. In particular, inform about the place of their detention, allowing access to their legal representatives and family members, as well as the health care that may be necessary, and ensure that they are presented to judicial authorities for the review and monitoring of their eventual detention.

Eugenia Valle, the ex-military’s wife, recently reported to independent media that her husband is “disappeared” and that, although she went many times to ask for information about his whereabouts in Plaza El Sol, La Modelo and Nuevo Chipote, “no one” told her. gave answers.

Boitano, upon being detained by the Sandinista regime, had returned from Italy eight months ago, a country in which he lived from 2018 to September 2023 and obtained that European nationality.

Boitano’s wife links the detention and reprisals against the former military man to books that he wrote more than 10 years ago, especially the one related to the death of the glory of Nicaraguan sports and former mayor of Managua, Alexis Argüello. The writing was titled: “Alexis Argüello: The mystery of his death.”
