MIAMI, United States.- Cubans affected by the passage of Hurricane Ian must pay 50% of the value of the construction materials, water tanks and mattresses that the government sells them, the Inventory Project denounced this Sunday, according to information provided by the government.
An informative note from the Ministry of Finance and Prices explained that in Agreement 9411, published in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Cuba No. 59, extraordinary, of October 1, 2022, provides that those affected They will not receive the aforementioned supplies for free, since the state will only finance 50 percent of their cost.
The Cuban regime assures that this measure gives “economic and social protection” to the victims.
“With the objective of providing economic and social protection to families whose homes were totally or partially affected by the impacts of Hurricane Ian, in the provinces of Pinar del Río, Artemisa, Mayabeque and Havana, as well as the Special Municipality Isla de la Youth, the Council of Ministers approved that the State Budget finance 50% of the prices of construction materials, water tanks and mattresses that are sold to the affected population,” the statement said.
It also adds that “in correspondence with the above, the affected population to whom the products described above are sold, acquire them with a 50% discount on their current prices.” And people who do not have the cash, may apply for loans or request subsidies subject to approval.
“…Agreement 9411 provides that people whose income is not sufficient to acquire the aforementioned goods, may access bank loans or request subsidies for the purchase of construction materials, charged to the State Budget, and request financing for social assistance in the case of mattresses, all in accordance with the provisions of current legislation.
According to official sources, this measure will be carried out through the processing offices, where the affected population is attended to, each case is evaluated and their possible solution is guided, explained the Ministry of Finance and Prices.
