The Minister of the Interior, Vicente Tiburcioreferred to the results of the anti-crime strategy implemented by the president’s government José Jerí. In that sense, he offered a balance that he considered positive.
“The balance for us is positive,” he said during the presentation of a drug seizure. Furthermore, he indicated that the advance of crime is being contained, despite the fact that criminal acts still persist.
The head of the Ministry assured that the approach implemented seeks to stop the increase in serious crimes. “The idea is that the homicides no longer advance,” he asserted.
The minister admitted the existence of violent events, but assured that the country is going through a “stationary situation” in terms of homicide rates. He added that “every effort is being made to prevent these events from occurring,” alluding to the attacks and crimes that continue to affect citizens.
Tiburcio explained that his portfolio’s strategy is based on three pillars: strengthening prevention, investigation with intelligence and frontal fight against corruption.
Likewise, he specified that the request for legislative powers in matters of citizen security is underway and assured that the formal announcement will be made by President José Jerí.
Finally, the minister stated that he seeks to carry out a purge within the National Police and assured that he will “clean the house” through a new disciplinary regime.
