The vice-mayor of Belo Horizonte, Álvaro Damião, temporarily assumed command of the municipal Executive Branch this Saturday (4), after Mayor Fuad Noman (photo) went on medical leave for 15 days.
The medical certificate was issued by the medical coordinator of clinical oncology at Mater Dei Hospital, in the capital of Minas Gerais, Enaldo Melo de Lima.
The re-elected mayor of BH remains in the intensive care unit (ICU) for treatment of pneumonia.
The 77-year-old politician was hospitalized for an indefinite period last Friday (3), with acute respiratory failure. He breathes with the help of devices (ventilatory assistance). After the second round of the October elections, Fuad underwent three more hospitalizations.

Last Wednesday (1st), Fuad Noman participated in the inauguration ceremony virtuallyupon medical recommendation.
During the inauguration ceremony, at Belo Horizonte City Hall, vice-mayor Álvaro Damião read the inauguration speech sent by Fuad.
The politician is undergoing treatment for non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma (NHL), diagnosed in June 2024. This type of cancer originates in the lymphatic system, a set of tissues and organs that produce immune system defense cells, responsible for fighting infections and illnesses.
