The Executive Vice President of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez, denied this Sunday the recent statements of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares, where he affirms that there was no negotiation between Venezuela and Spain to grant González Urrutia’s departure from Venezuelan territory.
“A forger is not a good advisor. Extensive conversations and contacts took place to operationalize the departure of the opposition leader González Urrutia from the country with the full guarantees offered by a safe-conduct, the product of the agreement between both governments,” said Rodríguez.
The vice president made this statement through a post published on her official account on the social network Telegram, where she clarified to the European official that “the landing of a Spanish Air Force aircraft with authorization from the aeronautical authorities of Venezuela is a communication event.”
This Saturday evening, Vice President Delcy Rodríguez reported that after spending several days at the Spanish embassy in Caracas, the former far-right candidate Edmundo González Urrutia decided to request a pass to leave the country.
After the relevant procedures between the governments of Venezuela and Spain, he was granted the benefit and is now on his way to Madrid.
The Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation later reported that the former candidate was travelling on a plane belonging to the Spanish Air Force. “Edmundo González has taken off from Caracas to Spain on a plane belonging to the Spanish Air Force.”
