Vice President Hamilton Mourão participated today (20) in the closing of the 2nd SC Expo Defense, an event that brings together companies and bodies working in the area of production and development of military industrial products.
Based this year in Florianópolis (SC), the fair aims to give visibility to innovations in the defense sector and integrate technology centers with the Armed Forces. In addition to stands and exhibitions of products and services, the fair featured lectures, debates and panels with the participation of civilians, military and government representatives.
According to Mourão, events such as SC Expo Defense ensure national independence and sovereignty. “Since 1980, when the Falklands conflict took place, it has been understood that one cannot depend on foreign supplies in the defense area. It has to have the capacity to produce at least 50% to 60% of the needs within the country,” he said.
At the Navy stand, visitors were able to see up close the aircraft and prototypes of the Tamandaré Class Frigate, as well as the model of the first Brazilian Nuclear Propulsion Submarine (SN-BR), the submarine Álvaro Alberto. The Army exhibited Guarani armored vehicles and the new weapons of the Astros 2020 system. The Air Force’s presentation featured a KC-390 Millennium and a replica of the new F-39 Gripen multi-mission fighter.
The sector represents 4.78% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), generates 2.9 million direct and indirect jobs.
