Harassed by criticism, with a legal process against and requests for dismissal that multiplied in the last 24 hours, the Vice Minister of Government Coordination, Gustavo Torrico, backed down on his statements and asked that the Mayor of El Alto, Eva Copa, accept his apologies for the words he used to refer to her, although the Vice Minister he insists that his words were expressed in another sense.
“With all due respect to our lady mayor, to her authority, to herself as a woman, I offer my most sincere apologies. I did not do it with the desire to insult anyone or harm anyone, It was a political reflection to the militants of the Movement Towards Socialism (MAS) about a commitment that must be had in the militancy”, said Torrico in a short press conference offered in his office in the Casa Grande del Pueblo
On Monday night Gustavo Torrico attended the inauguration of a political training school and in his speech he alluded to the electoral victory of Eva Copa and used disqualifying words. The next day he said he would not apologize to anyone because he had not offended anyone and said that his words were not directed at Eva Copa. That statement unleashed a wave of criticism from all sectors and authorities.
“For me it has not been a personal allusion, it has not been like that. I was calling attention to our militancy, but if it has been understood that way, I express my apologies to the mayor”, he reiterated three times.
He also recalled that in carrying out his duties has scheduled a meeting with Copa this Friday, meeting in which they must fine-tune the issues that interest the city of El Alto and said that it will be held in the Casa Grande.
“With this I think the matter is settled.I am going to wait for her here so that we can talk about what we had previously planned,” he continued.
Regarding the judicial process that Copa has already initiated in a particular way, he said that he will appear before the authorities and that it will reach that instance if necessary. The departmental prosecutor of La Paz, William Alave, reported this morning that until Wednesday the Analysis unit will decide whether to admit or reject the complaint against Torrico for political violence.
