The Vice Minister of Foreign Trade, Benjamín Blanco, pointed out this Tuesday that Argentina prohibited the export of soybean flour and not wheat, as warned by bakeries and other sectors.
The authority used its Twitter account to refer to the matter after international media reported on the decision that the Casa Rosada made in the midst of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
The bakeries of La Paz and El Alto declared an emergency and announced that they will stop making the traditional marraqueta due to the increase in the prices of this key ingredient for bread.
“It is reported that Govt. of #Argentina did NOT prohibit the export of wheat flour. The products affected by the Communiqué of the Undersecretariat of Agricultural Markets of that country are soybean meal and oil”, outlines the tweet that Blanco published at noon on Tuesday.

On Monday night, the AFP agency reported that Argentina, the world’s leading exporter of soybean oil and flour, temporarily closed this Sunday the official registry for new exports of these two products, a measure that the industry interprets as a step prior to a possible rise in the rate of export duties charged by the State.
An extension of the Federation of Artisan Bakers of La Paz decided last night to stop making battle bread (marraqueta) due to the increase in the price of Argentine flour due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
This basic input for making bread skyrocketed in price in the La Paz markets to between 220 and 245 bolivianos per quintal, although the bakers point out that it is at 260 bolivianos.
