Vice Minister of Transport resigns after being sentenced to six years in prison

Luis César Rivera Pérez, Vice Minister of presented this Friday his letter of resignation to the position before after being sentenced to six years in prison for the crime of incompatible negotiation.

The Ministry of Transport and Communications published the letter from the aforementioned official and recalled that he held the position since June 2, 2022 and where he mentions that he resigns for “personal reasons.”

The text includes gratitude for the trust placed in him and concludes with Rivera Pérez indicating that he demonstrated a “deep identification with the country to meet the needs of the sector, and especially the needs of the most vulnerable population.”

Luis Rivera Pérez was sentenced to six years in prison for the crime of incompatible negotiation committed when he held the position of central manager of Aeropuertos Corpac.

The prosecution accused him of irregularities in the contracting of two companies for security services at the Juan Velazco Astete airport and the Acopia Grande radar station in Cusco.

The Judiciary considered that both the resigning Vice Minister of Transportation and another sentenced person, Dhenis Gamth Cabrera Garrido, authorized the contracting of two companies for an amount of S/ 1,761,878.00 and divided the service orders for amounts less than 3 tax units. (UIT), renewed every two days between March 2013 and January 2014.

To achieve this, the then Corpac workers omitted the process of exoneration due to imminent shortages, in order to illicitly benefit said companies.
