Vice Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture supervises cleaning on beaches affected by oil spill

The Vice Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, accompanied by the president of IMARPE, general directors of representatives of Sanipes and Fondepes, arrived in Lobitos to evaluate the impact of the oil spill in the area and met with Mayor Ricardo Bancayán.

The Ministry of Production (PRODUCE) has begun to implement actions since December 21 to evaluate the oil spill on Las Capullanas beach, in Piura, and provide assistance to artisanal fishermen in the region. The Institute of the Sea of Peru (IMARPE) leads the technical evaluation with a team in Paita, carrying out analyzes both on the coast and at sea. Today, the BIC IMARPE will arrive in Lobitos to map the affected area and carry out important oceanographic observations.

Sanipes, in coordination with the president of the Lobitos Fishermen’s Association, Jorge Periche, is carrying out technical visits to the Lobitos landing dock and touring the beach to evaluate the impact of the spill on fishing resources.

For its part, FONDEPES has suspended credit payments to fishermen in the area. Inspectors from the General Directorate of Supervision, Inspection and Sanction are using drones in Lobitos to document the impact and support multisectoral efforts.

For his part, the mayor of Talara, Sigifredo Zárate, demanded immediate sanctions because this event, classified as an ecological disaster, has caused damage to the ecosystem and harmed local fishermen, who have constantly reported these problems without receiving effective responses. .

Zárate pointed out that, despite the repeated complaints from the fishermen of Lobitos and El Ñuro, the action of the Environmental Assessment and Control Agency (OEFA) has been insufficient, since they continually assure that the samples taken to analyze the spills are not valid because They are not collected at the right time.

Meanwhile, to address the oil spill that occurred on Las Capullanas beach, in Piura, SERFOR has taken immediate actions, activating the protocol of the guide for the management of wildlife in the event of hydrocarbon spill events in the coastal marine area. .
