Through decree 321-22, of this Thursday, June 16, 2022, President Luis Abinader ordered that the Vice President of the Republic, Raquel Peña, be provisionally in charge of the Ministry of the Environment.
The decree establishes that such functions will be exercised in addition to their constitutional powers in an honorary manner, and until the head of said ministry is appointed.
The highest authority of the Ministry of the Environment became vacant on June 6, 2022, when Orlando Jorge Mera lost his life in circumstances that have produced sorrow and consternation throughout the country.
With this measure, the Executive Power ensures the continuity of the usual functions of the ministry and its important role in the different activities of the country.
Last week, the vice president met with the vice ministers of Environment and Natural Resources to coordinate the continuation of the work in that institution. Likewise, the Minister of Public Administration, Darío Castillo Lugo, and the Comptroller General of the Republic, Catalino Correa Hiciano, met with the Administrative and Financial Coordinator.
