Via Risaralda-Chocó continues with passage restricted by landslides

Despite the decrease in rainfall during the last few days in Risaralda, Several landslides have occurred on the road that connects the cities of Pereira and Quibdó (Chocó)which is why transitability problems persist in the region.

In accordance with Alfredo Muñoz, director of Civil Defense in Risaraldathere are at least six points of the Pan-American Highway with vehicular passage restricted to a single lane, especially in the section between Apía-Pueblo Rico-Santa Cecilia.

The director of Civil Defense also assured that due to the winter wave, 70% of the towns in Risaralda were declared on alert by Ideam, before the risk of occurrence of landslides and sudden floods.

“Ideam provides alerts for sudden floods for the San Juan River affecting the municipality of Pueblo Rico, a yellow alert for the Otún River where the municipalities of Pereira, Dosquebradas, Santa Rosa de Cabal and Marsella intervene,” he said.

He added that “there is also an alert for the Risaralda River involving the towns of La Virginia, Apía, Balboa and Mistrató, finally an alert was also declared for the Frío River where there is concern for the inhabitants of the municipality of Quinchía”.

Given the high probability that the rains extend even until the year 2023relief agencies have recommended that communities travel with caution and avoid traveling at night, in order to avoid emergencies.

On the other hand, the risk management authorities have warned that the days of dry weather are momentary, since the rains will extend due to the influence of the La Niña phenomenon.
