Vía al Llano: there are new announcements after a collapse at kilometer 18

The national government is advancing in the stabilization of kilometer 18 of the Vía al Llano, one of the most critical points of the corridor that connects Villavicencio with the center of the country. The works, led by the Ministry of Transportation, seek to restore security and stability to the mountain, affected by a landslide that partially interrupted traffic in recent weeks.

During a technical visit, the Minister of Transportation, María Fernanda Rojas, inspected the development of the works and confirmed that more than 12,000 cubic meters of material have already been intervened in the slope area and, as she explained, the earthworks are part of a comprehensive geotechnical solution that will allow stabilizing the slope and guaranteeing that traffic is reestablished without risks.

“We are here, in the territory, supervising each phase of the work. We intervened more than 12,000 cubic meters with a clear objective: to restore stability to the mountain. We are not going to reopen the road until we are completely safe. Life comes first,” the minister said, reaffirming that the Government will not prioritize speed over security.

The intervention is part of an emergency care plan supported with resources of more than $9,134 million, which covers the construction of drainage, deep drilling and the technical conformation of the land. These tasks, according to the Ministry, will mitigate the risk of new landslides and restore normal mobility between the center and the Eastern Plains, a key axis for the transportation of food, hydrocarbons and consumer goods.

While the work is being carried out, mobility is maintained through a traffic light system controlled that regulates the alternating passage of vehicles that has contributed to reducing waiting times and maintaining connectivity safely, despite temporary restrictions.

The Ministry highlighted that all material movement is carried out within the same point of the collapse, which allows rigorous environmental and technical control of the process; through an approach that prevents the dispersion of waste and contributes to the progressive stability of the mountain.

Special plan for the Joropo Festival

In view of the expected increase in traffic flow due to the festive long weekend and the Joropo Festival, the Ministry of Transportation announced the installation of a Unified Command Post (PMU) to reinforce operational coordination.

The measure, which will be implemented on Tuesday, seeks to guarantee the safe movement of travelers and coordinate actions between the road concession, the Traffic Police and local authorities. Among the main tasks of the PMU are the implementation of additional traffic management measures, the continuous supervision of the road and the accompaniment of tourist flows that will move towards the Meta region.

We want people to come to the Llano, enjoy the Joropo and travel with peace of mind. That is why we will reinforce the operation this weekend,” said Minister Rojas, highlighting the Government’s commitment to the safety and well-being of travelers.

The official also reiterated that the total reopening of the road will be carried out only when the structure is completely safe, emphasizing that decisions will be made based on technical criteria, territorial support and without improvisations.

It should be noted that the Vía al Llano, one of the most important arteries for national commerce, concentrates a good part of the cargo transportation that connects Bogotá with the Eastern Llanos. For this reason, the Mintransporte emphasized that guaranteeing its stability not only has implications in matter of mobility, but also in the country’s competitiveness and supply.

This entity closed by saying that it will continue to report periodically on the progress of the works, and reiterated that the Government’s priority is to preserve life, restore trust and maintain permanent communication with the users of the road corridor.
