More than 400 pounds of fish were seized by the Federal Police in a joint action with the Rio de Janeiro State Environment Institute (Inea) in the Itaipu Marine Extractive Reserve (Resex Itaipu), In the oceanic region of Niterói, to combat predatory fishing.
Two vessels practiced predatory fishing on Itacoatiara beach, within the conservation unit area, which is prohibited by law.
The boats used a network, 400 meters long, even capturing endangered species such as the Viola Raia. Most of the seized fish were sardines of the crooked mouth.
The seized fish was donated to the preventive communities in Niterói and the wet rat, in Itaipu, benefiting about 100 people.
Assessment
The owner of the vessel was taken to the Federal Police Station of Niterói where he was charged in the act. He will answer for the crime of illegal fishing, whose penalty can reach up to three years in prison, as well as a fine.
The boat owner was also charged by Inea for practicing predatory fishing. The fine can reach $ 100,000, with an increase of $ 10, per kilo of the seized fishing product.
