“The whole weekend has been amazing. But it is never easy”, declared Verstappen, 24, who after signing his ninth win of the year -the twenty-ninth in Formula One- now leads the championship with 284 points, 93 more than his teammate, the Mexican Sergio Pérez, together who this Sunday signed the fourth ‘double’ of the course for Red Bull, a team that also leads, comfortably, the Constructors’ World Cup.
“The first lap was quite hectic, trying to avoid any kind of danger, since many things were happening in front of me and everyone was trying to keep their position”, explained ‘Mad Max’ after being exhibited again, this time in one of the sacred temples of F1.
“After the safety car and when everything was more or less calm again, we moved forward and made our way forward choosing the right places to overtake; and managing our tires properly”, commented the young Dutch star after winning, including the fastest lap, at the legendary Ardennes track.
“We know that we have to finish every race; and that we no longer have the need to win them all. But we would like to do it, as a team”, said Verstappen after confirming himself as the new king of Formula One, just a few days after entering, practically under a canopy, in his country, which will host, next weekend, the next Grand Prix, that of the Netherlands, where a packed house is expected by the always very passionate Dutch fans.
“Let’s see what we can do in Zandvoort,” said Verstappen, about the circuit that will host the fifteenth of the 22 races of the year next weekend.
The entrance Verstappen: “The whole weekend has been incredible” was first published in diary TODAY.
