Verónika Mendoza, a member of Nuevo Perú and a possible candidate to the next presidential elections in 2026, was questioned by the journalist Cesar Hildebrandt on whether he would vote for Nicolás Maduro or the opposition in Venezuela’s upcoming elections.
The candidate first tried to argue that this Venezuelan opposition that aspires to the Miraflores Palace is neither the most democratic nor the most transformative in that country.
“Unfortunately, the opposition is neither the most democratic nor the most transformative in Venezuela. I would not vote for Maduro, but I suppose I would be part of some leftist, progressive, popular alternative… which is what we are trying to build,” he told Hildebrandt en sus trece.
In response to this statement and the lack of forcefulness in his response, Hildebrandt questioned his attempt to evade the question, which he described as a “strong dilemma.”

We must build an alternative for change, we do not have to resign ourselves to being governed by this mafia coalition that seeks to perpetuate itself in power,” he continued.
“Finally, Verónika Mendoza said that she has never blindly defended the Maduro regime, emphasizing that she has always been critical of its economic model and democracy. ‘No one is endorsing a particular government, but don’t ask me to applaud an equally arbitrary opposition,’ she concluded.”
