The Communist Party, together with other sectors of the Frente Amplio, has decided to promote the candidacy of Verónica Piñeiro for the Municipality of Montevideo. Piñeiro, current vice president of the Frente Amplio and manager of Environmental Management of the Municipality, agreed to be considered to compete in the ruling party’s internal elections.
The proposal arises as an alternative to the name of Mario Bergara, who has the support of the Popular Participation Movement (MPP). In this context, Juan Castillo and Óscar Andrade, key figures of the Communist Party, have proposed Piñeiro as a candidate.
The communal leader stated that what contributions her candidacy can make to the Frente Amplio will be analyzed. In addition, he clarified that the officialization of the names of the pre-candidates for mayors will be in February 2025, so there is still time for the definition.
