Verónica Chávez: “There is no day that Miguelito does not call his father”

Miguel Mora's son turns 20. He has 10 months without seeing his dad

This Monday, May 16, marks 330 days since the last day that Miguelito Mora Chávez, son of political prisoner and presidential candidate Miguel Mora Barberena, saw his father at home and was able to spend time with him. It is the second time that the Nicaraguan dictatorship, headed by Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo, has taken his father away from him.

The first time was on Christmas Eve 2018, when the regime kidnapped Mora for more than six months while he was working in the facilities of the 100% Noticias channel, the offices that Ortega and Murillo handed over to the Ministry of Health (Minsa). .

The second occurs since June 20, 2021 when he was detained at his home in Managua. The journalist was subjected to attacks, cyber harassment by supporters of the regime, he was stripped of the equipment and the frequency of the communication medium.

«Since they took his Miguel (June 20, 2021), that is what Miguelito has been without seeing his father. This has been devastating for us and above all for the child, who, being a special child, the presence of his father is fundamental”, said Verónica Chávez, wife of Miguel Mora and mother of Miguelito.

“There is no day that Miguelito does not call his father, every day and at different times he calls him and starts crying when we tell him “love will come soon,” “he added.

Chávez explained that, despite the fact that the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) urged the State of Nicaragua to guarantee political prisoners in El Chipote, “communication and contact with their relatives, daughters and sons” in dignified, safe conditions. and in accordance with international standards and national legislation, “until now it has not happened and we hope in the coming days it can be applied to that right.”

«Almost a year later, Miguel Mora, my husband continues to resist with great faith in the cells of El Chipote where he is unjustly imprisoned. As a family we testify that if Miguel is still standing, that is only attributed to one more miracle of our God, “he assured.

“Nobody who has been in jail for 11 months can be fine. Only God with his power is the one who spiritually sustains and gives strength to Miguel; as well as to each of the political prisoners who go through so many sufferings », he added.

On April 20, on the occasion of the 20th birthday of Mora’s son, the journalist Lucía Pineda, director of 100% Noticias, claimed for visitation rights, which Miguelito Mora has not been allowed.

«The regime has not allowed Miguelito to see his father in El Chipote. They have denied his rights. Even his identity card was denied, it is incredible how the regime crushes the rights of a child with a disability, “the communicator wrote on her account of Twitter.

The trial against Miguel Mora

On February 9, Judge Nadia Camilla Tardencilla sentenced journalist and presidential candidate Miguel Mora Barberena to 13 years in prison for the crime of “conspiracy to undermine national integrity.”

The former director of the channel 100% Noticias was also disqualified from holding public office and the sentence will be served until August 30, 2034, according to the court ruling held by Article 66.

«I am innocent, that ruling is not attached to lawI still don’t know what I’m being accused of. In what democratic legal system is the legitimate right to defense not given? That the accusation and the qualification would change. Put the penalty you want, “Mora replied in the penalty debate.

The Nicaraguan Prosecutor’s Office presented as “evidence”, in the political trial against the journalist Miguel Mora, the presidential candidate’s passport, cell phone and computer, but could not explain what relationship Mora’s personal devices had with the “conspiracy” accusation.
