The candidate for the Presidency of the Republic by PTSU, Vera Lucia, defended this Wednesday (14) the increase in public investments for public daycare centers in the country. In a debate held in Santo André (SP), this afternoon, the candidate highlighted that she intends to resume the construction works of daycare centers that are paralyzed.
“Our proposal is the resumption of investments, the conclusion of the paralyzed works. Public day care is a right and must be guaranteed. Guarantee 100% full-time and quality public day care, end of public-private partnerships and agreements and for the nationalization of private day care centers”, he said.
According to the candidate, throughout Brazil there are 1,216 education works stopped and such a scenario may make it impossible for the goals of the National Education Plan (PNE) to be achieved.
“The goal [do PNE] is to have half of the children up to 3 years old enrolled by 2024. The calculation with data from 2020 shows that not a third of the children in this age group were in public and private daycare centers, according to the Technical Education Committee of the Rui Barbosa Institute. To reach the goal of the National Education Plan, Brazil needs to enroll 2.2 million children up to 2 years of age”, he said.
Vera Lucia also said that “the lack of day care is one of the problems most felt by the working class”.
“More than a simple place in an educational institution to leave the children, the day care center represents part of the process of emancipation and liberation of women. The lack of day care is one of the problems most felt by the working class, in particular by women who are responsible for caring for their children. Failure to meet demand for early childhood education is the main reason women leave their jobs,” she said.
