Oropeza was arrested on the night of August 6, an episode that she managed to broadcast live on social media, and since then her lawyers and family have been unaware of her whereabouts. The leader is being held in the Helicoide, reported lawyer Omar Mora Tosta.
Lawyer Omar Mora Tosta reported this Friday, August 16, that after ten days without hearing anything from the leader of Vente Venezuela, María Oropeza, they were able to learn that she is being held in the Helicoide and that she has been charged with the crimes of terrorism and inciting hatred.
“After 10 days of anxiety, visiting the Terrorism Control Courts and police every day, including the 3CT, this afternoon Mrs. Flor Oropeza, mother of María Oropeza, was informed that she should go to the Public Defender 94, she was charged with terrorism and inciting hatred and is in the Helicoide,” wrote the lawyer on the social network X.
On the night of August 6, Oropeza managed to broadcast the arrest live. In a video, broadcast on TikTok, the coordinator of Vente Venezuela in Portuguesa showed how the security officers hit the bars of the house, while she told them that she was not a criminal and that she had not done anything wrong.
On August 11, the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) granted precautionary measures to the leader, considering that she is in a serious and urgent situation of risk of irreparable damage to her rights.
In resolution 46/2024, the IACHR requests the State to adopt the necessary measures to protect María Oropeza’s rights to life and personal integrity. They also asked the authorities to report on her circumstances.
