Bejarano is known in Bolívar for his work as a defender of the labor rights of public workers. The leader has accompanied retirees in their demands for fair wages and contractual benefits.
If it is an arrest, this would be the fourth of a political leader in Bolívar since December 10. Activists and human rights defenders have denounced the arrest of opposition activists and militants Jorge Francisco Sambrano, activist of the Democratic Action party; Álvaro Mora, organization coordinator of Vente Venezuela; and Edgar Sarabia, municipal coordinator of this same party in Angostura del Orinoco.
Organizations have reported that although some political prisoners have been released in the post-electoral context, other arrests have also been recorded. The NGO Foro Penal describes this situation as the “revolving door” phenomenon.
