The coordinator of Vente Venezuela, María Corina Machado, reported on the night of Tuesday, August 6, that officials from the State security forces detained María Oropeza, coordinator of said organization in the state of Portuguesa, while she was broadcasting live on social media.

In the video, broadcast on TikTok, the coordinator of Vente Venezuela in Portuguesa shows how the security officers hit the bars that separated them from Oropeza while saying that she was not a criminal and that she had not done anything wrong. In addition, she warned that they did not have a search warrant. After several minutes, the officers manage to get through and arrest her. Parties that are part of the opposition grouped in the Democratic Unitary Platform, including Primero Justicia (PJ), Voluntad Popular (VP) and Vente Venezuela (VV), described the arrest as “arbitrary.”
Hours earlier, the coordinator of Vente Venezuela in Portuguesa, Maria Oropezahad spoken about the “so-called Tun Tun operation”; saying that it lacked legal arguments and that what was being revealed was a “witch hunt” after the results of July 28. He said that it went against all citizens.
“The truth is that Edmundo González Urrutia is the president-elect of Venezuela, elected by an overwhelming majority on July 28. We will continue to fight until the end alongside María Corina Machado,” said the regional opposition leader.

The organization Foro Penal recorded that the number of arrests has risen to 1,102 since July 29, when protests began throughout the country, following the presidential elections that took place in Venezuela, where the National Electoral Council gave a victory to Nicolás Maduro. The director of Foro Penal, Gonzalo Himiob, called for the immediate release of detained adolescents who are on the autism spectrum. “They must be released immediately and, in any case, they must be allowed contact with their families, lawyers and therapists,” he wrote.

Human rights organizations point out that detainees are prevented from seeing private lawyers or communicating with their families.
