Venezuelans will be able to report mistreatment of compatriots abroad

Alfredo Ruiz: attention to children was paramount during the pandemic

The Ombudsman, Alfredo Ruíz, invited Venezuelans to go to the offices of this institution at the national level to file complaints about alleged mistreatment of compatriots abroad.

The Ombudsman offered these statements in the framework of a videoconference that took place between the Delegated Ombudsmen and the Special Commission of the National Assembly that investigates crimes against Venezuelan migrants, which took place this Thursday in the Hemicycle of the Federal Legislative Palace .

Ruiz raised the possibility for those people who are abroad and who are being victims of this type of situation to present their complaints through the Ombudsman’s Offices in Latin America with which Venezuela has signed agreements on this matter.

Also, those people who are in the national territory can go to the different offices of the Delegated Defenders in the national territory, as well as to the Special Commission of the National Assembly that investigates crimes against Venezuelan migrants, which is chaired by the deputy Julio Chávez and under the vice presidency is the deputy Ilenia Medina, who accompanied the Ombudsman on this occasion.

There are 2,400 complaints

The Special Commission of the National Assembly that investigates Crimes against Venezuelan Migrants reported that they have received complaints about more than 2,400 actions of mistreatment of compatriots abroad.

The information was released by the president of the legislative body, Ilenia Medina, after meeting with the Ombudsman, Alfredo Ruiz, where they discussed the joint mechanisms that will reduce acts of xenophobia and any type of mistreatment or aggression against Venezuelan migrants and facilitate the channels to denounce these actions.

Deputy Medina noted that the legislative institution has made the email available to the public [email protected] so that the affected people can present the corresponding complaints.
