Led by outfielder Alberth Martínez, leader of the hitters, and Erick Leal, pitcher with the best ERA, the Venezuelan players monopolize the spotlight in the Mexican Baseball League.

Martínez, right fielder for the Generales de Durango, has 81 hits in 182 times at bat and with a percentage of .445 is the best on offense until this Monday, followed by the Cubans Roel Santos, from the Olmecas de Tabasco, with an average of .436 and Henry Urrutia, of the Saraperos de Saltillo, with .434.

With his 81 undisputed, Alberth Martínez is the leader in hits, followed by Dominican Aneury Tavarez, Durango’s designated hitter, with 75, and Urrutia, with 74. In doubles, the Venezuelan of the Generals is second with 18, behind his compatriot Luis Sardiñas, from the Marichis de Guadalajara, with 20.

Other Latin Americans

Other Latin Americans with good performance in attack are the Cubans, led by Félix Pérez, left fielder for the Tijuana Bulls, leader in home runs, with 19, and in runs batted in, with 56.

In home runs, Pérez is followed by the Puerto Rican Danny Ortiz, of the Pericos de Puebla, and the American Kyle Martin, of Oaxaca, both with 18, while in RBIs, the Dominican Zoilo Almonte, designated hitter of the Sultanes de Monterrey, is second with 52, one more than Ortiz.

The Colombian Tito Polo, central gardener for the Quintana Roo Tigers, and the Mexican Fernando Villegas, for the Saraperos, add four triples, one better than the Japanese Tomo Otosaka, from León, leader with five.

Erick Leal, a right-hander from Carabobo, allows 2.57 earned runs per nine innings and is the most effective pitcher, followed by Americans Brennan Bernardino, from the Toros, with 2.70, and Mike Fiers, from Yucatán, with 2.84.

The Venezuelan Junior Guevara, from Dos Laredos, is the one with the most strikeouts, with 56. He surpasses the Dominicans Wendolyn Bautista, from Durango, 55, and Francis Martes, from the Red Devils, 53.

The Dominican Neftalí Feliz, from the Sultanes de Monterrey, has 12 saved games, two more than his compatriot Fernando Rodney, from Tijuana, and the Venezuelans Yepson Gómez, from Veracruz, and José Torres, from Dos Laredos.

The League is led in the north by Dos Laredos, with three games ahead of champion Tijuana, seven over the Sultanes de Monterrey and 11 over Acereros de Monclova and Rieleros de Aguascalientes.

In the southern division, Olmecas de Tabasco and Diablos Rojos are in first place, half a line above Águila de Veracruz and Los Tigres.
