The Organization of Politically Persecuted Venezuelans in Exile (Veppex) issued a statement stating that former Colombian senator Piedad Córdoba had “strong ties and ties with the figurehead of Nicolas Maduro, Alex Saab” so they ask the American justice to investigate this relationship allegedly focused on money laundering and evading sanctions.
According to the Organization, Córdoba “has always been the link” of Nicolás Maduro with guerrilla groups in Colombia and for this reason José Antonio Colina, a former Venezuelan military officer and president of Veppex, considered that investigating this relationship would be “one more step to neutralize this criminal organization” of sanctions evasion.
This is not the first time that Cordoba has been linked to Saab since the Ecuadorian Congress presented a report which ensures that the former senator received payments from Saab, to which Córdoba has detailed that, although he met Alex Saab during a Horacio Serpa campaign and years later he saw it in Venezuela, never had financial relations with him or with his companies.
At the moment, a new advance is expected in the case of alexsaab, who has a hearing scheduled for the Wednesday February 16 before a Miami court for the accusation of conspiracy to launder money of which he has previously pleaded not guilty.
