Venezuelan universities will resume academic and administrative activities on January 12

The Ministry for University Education reported this Wednesday that the restart of the academic and administrative activities of the university sector It is scheduled for Monday, January 12, in accordance with the schedule approved by the National Council of Universities (CNU).

Through a statement, the ministerial office noted: “In response to the schedule of academic and administrative activities of the university sector, approved by the National Council of Universities, the restart of activities corresponding to the year 2026 will be next MONDAY, JANUARY 12, 2026.”

He clarified that “those institutions that plan to start before that date will be able to do so completely normally,” leaving open the possibility that some autonomous or experimental universities resume their work early, according to their own internal calendars.

This announcement occurs in a national context marked by a progressive reactivation of the educational system after the Christmas break, and in the midst of a challenging political panorama. Study houses, such as the Universidad Pedagógica Experimental Libertador (UPEL) and the University of Zulia (LUZ), have begun to publish their respective return schedules, some with dates after January 12, as part of a staggered reincorporation strategy.

The country is going through a beginning of the year with persistent political tensions between Venezuela and the United States, after the recent arrest of Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, who are in US territory.

University authorities have called on students, teachers and administrative staff to remain attentive to the official channels of each institution, as last-minute adjustments could occur.
