Venezuelan teenager was beaten in the US for speaking Spanish

A Twitter user denounced this Wednesday an act of xenophobia suffered by a Venezuelan teenager in a school in the United States for speaking Spanish.

The Teen The 13-year-old, apparently a cousin of the Twitter user @iMonika who reported the attack, was allegedly severely beaten by another student on the premises of a Florida educational institution for speaking Spanish.

“Context: the victim He is my 13-year-old cousin Luis Manuel (son of my cousin), Venezuelan, they live in Florida, where he studies. Last Tuesday another student decided to physically violate him because he was speaking in Spanish, ”published @iMonika along with the video of the beating that went viral this Wednesday.

In the Twiiter thread that accompanies the video, the user @iMonika pointed out that the aggressor’s parents threatened the Venezuelan’s mother with the allegation that Luis Manuel was bullying her son if she filed the complaint.

“My cousin has not yet found a lawyer to help her and she is spreading this on the networks so that justice is done,” @iMonika said.

According to @iMonika, the young man “Luis Manuel is an outstanding athlete in swimming, a good student, well educated and always calm.”

He also assured that the school did nothing in the face of the act of violence and “said that they are only adolescent things.”

Luis Manuel is now well, but at the time he required help from 911 at the school and at the nearby hospital.

This Monday “Luis Manuel returned to school after several days with great fear but with his head held high,” said @iMonika, asking users to RT the publication to demand justice.

“Full of fear but determined, as a good Venezuelan mother, today I turn to you to help me find support, although many people do not believe it, I do not get a lawyer, I am afraid and I feel alone, I have my husband and my son, but the Fear of seeing myself in a place I don’t know has invaded me,” said Luis Manuel’s mother in one of the Instagram states that tweeted @iMonika.
