Hundreds of Venezuelan migrants in Chiapas (Mexico), who could not reach the United States after the measures of President Donald Trump, are line in to be included in the “humanitarian flights” organized by the administration of Claudia Sheinbaum to return to Venezuela
Hundreds of Venezuelans in southern Mexico, where they are a quarter of irregular migration, seek that the government of Claudia Sheinbaum includes them in the “humanitarian flights” to return to their country before the restrictions of the president of the United States, Donald Trump .
The nationals make ranks since this week in Tuxtla Gutiérrez, capital of Chiapas, border state with Guatemala, to benefit from the program enabled by the National Institute of Migration (Imm) For Venezuelans who want to voluntarily return to their nation, according to EFE on the ground.
Even so, Venezuelans interviewed expressed their frustration due to the slowness in the procedures they need to return after Trump’s measures, such as mass deportations, the “closure” of the border, and the end of the “CBP One” application of the office of the office of Customs and protection to ask for asylum from southern Mexico.

The “Sub Representation Federal Center” migration station on the road to Villaflores has been the concentration point of thousands waiting for their turn, although in the first two weeks of operation only a hundred migrants have managed to enter this program and return to Venezuela.
Although the Mexican president has promised opportunities for foreigners, Darwin González, one of the first to complete the process, commented on EFE who wants to return to Venezuela for working conditions in Mexico, where you receive low wages and cannot send money to your children.
“One could be here, but I don’t have the ability to send (money) to children so that they do not need,” he explained.
Trump sharpens the drama of Venezuelan migrants
Mexico detected 266,846 irregular migrants from Venezuela from January to August, 28.85% of the total of 925,085 of all nationalities this 2024 and an increase of 142.76% compared to the first eight months of 2023, according to the immigration policy unit .
This phenomenon could be exacerbated because Trump finished temporary protection status (TPS) for Venezuelans.
Rafael Carreira, who travels with his minor daughter and has been on November 2024 in Chiapas, denounced the indifference of the authorities because their procedures are not resolved.
“I am losing a work day, which is sacred here (in Mexico) because they discount me, I have to pay for the rent and food, and those in charge of the Migration Institute do not give us details, it is frustrating,” he said.
Before the wait, Carreira asked Sheinbaum to coordinate with the ruler Nicolás Maduro the sending of more humanitarian flights.
«There are minors and the elderly. We are from one in the morning queuing to be able to speak with migration, ”he said.
The Odyssey to return
Maira Aréca, mother of two children, also shared her dissatisfaction because she said she had flights bought to go to Colombia, but the INM denied the country’s departure.
“I want to return to me, but they tell me no. I already have the tickets ready for March 8, each cost me 4,000 pesos (almost 200 dollars), and they do not give us permission to exit, we want a solution, ”he said.
This lawsuit was joined by Karen Ibarra, who asked the migratory officials “to decide.”
“I bought my passage, I want to leave, I don’t want to be here, without the permission from here they don’t let me climb to the plane,” he described.
For now, the INM requests a card or passport as a requirement for migrants looking for the return flight, but many Venezuelans lack the documents or the authorities take to verify them.
