Venezuelan migrants stranded at Tocumen Airport are taken to a temporary shelter

On the afternoon of this Saturday, October 22, the situation became tense at the Tocumen International Airport, after more than 500 migrants who had remained in the air terminal for several days spoke out to denounce the alleged increase in the price of air tickets. .

Franklin López, one of the migrants, assured that until Friday, October 21, air tickets did not exceed 150 dollars, but this Saturday the price exceeded 400 dollars.

These foreigners ask the authorities for support to return to Venezuela.

After the desperation of the migrants, Jason Madrid, an official from the Venezuelan embassy explained that the Venezuelans will be transferred to a temporary shelter while all the documentation is organized so that they can return to their country.

During the migrants’ stay at the airport, air terminal personnel provided lunch to children who had spent several days without eating a full meal.

Around 5:00 in the afternoon, the migrants voluntarily left the air terminal, in buses authorized by the National Migration Service and the National Police, to this shelter.
