A group of 1,500 migrants, mostly Venezuelans, left Tapachula heading to northern Mexico due to fear of a border closure due to Donald Trump’s upcoming policies.
A caravan made up of 1,500 migrants, mostly Venezuelans, began an extensive journey this Monday, December 2, from the city of Tapachula, on the southern border of Mexico, heading to the north of the country.

Trump warned that tariffs on Mexican products would increase to 25% if he did not stop “the invasion” of migrants and drugs.
The exodus, which also includes citizens from Colombia, Haiti, Cuba, Central America and even regions of the Middle East, advanced 26 kilometers from Tapachula to Huehuetán, where the group divided: a majority contingent continued towards the municipality of Huixtla, while the rest He remained in the Huehuetán park to rest.
Among the migrants, Joswes Linares, a Venezuelan, explained that insecurity, kidnappings and extortion led them to join a caravan as a protection measure.
«We fear that the border will close because the appointment (for asylum in the United States) takes six to seven months. Many people are lucky. It would be worse for us (to wait). We are going to travel about 1,000 kilometers.»he told EFE.
Anilka, another Venezuelan migrant traveling with her two children, expressed her anguish over the possible tightening of immigration policies. “Donald Trump would ruin our dreams and our children’s future if he closes the border. In Venezuela we have no options, and we want the best for our little ones,” he declared.
Meanwhile, Daimer Valor, also Venezuelan, requested support from President Sheinbaum to facilitate transit to Mexico City, alleging the lack of job opportunities in Tapachula, as the Government promised.
«We fear the closure of the border (with the United States) because (Trump) can eliminate the ‘CBP One’ application, from here you can expect anything because it is rude»he expressed.
On the other hand, María Esther Marroquín, from Civil Protection in Huehuetán, confirmed that no injuries have been reported, although the migrants show signs of exhaustion.
