Venezuelan journalist Tamoa Calzadilla among the 100 most creative in the business world

Calzadilla has received different journalistic awards and also an honorable mention from the Maria Moors Cabot award, one of the oldest in journalism awarded by Columbia University. At the time, she stood out for doing independent and non-partisan journalism in an environment of extreme polarization in Venezuela.


Venezuelan journalist Tamoa Calzadilla was included in the list of the 100 most creative people in the business world, made by Forbes, a specialized finance magazine.

Calzadilla entered the ranking thanks to her work as editor-in-chief at Factchequeando, an information verification portal from the United States, which was created by an alliance between the portal Maldita.es and Chequeado and defined by Forbes as “a leader at the world in verification of data in Spanish».

On its website, Forbes highlights that said project “seeks to use the learnings of both to create a Latino community of citizens and journalists to counteract misinformation in Spanish.”

The reporter, now residing in the US, has more than 21 years of experience in the world of investigative journalism and was a Pulitzer Prize finalist for her collaborative work on Los FinCenFiles, which revealed a network of corruption between Venezuelan officials and the international banking. She was also part of the team of investigators who reviewed the Panama Papers, a project led by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) in 2016.

He also received an honorable mention from the Maria Moors Cabot award, one of the oldest journalism awards given by Columbia University in New York, for his work in the investigative unit of the newspaper Últimas Noticias, where he stood out for doing independent journalism, not partisan in an environment of extreme polarization in Venezuela.

Likewise, Calzadilla obtained the Roche 2014 award and that same year with his team from that same outlet he obtained the Ipys Venezuela Award and second place at Ipys Internacional.

This list, in which the Venezuelan journalist appears, includes professionals from different sectors who, according to Forbes, have shown “inventiveness, adaptation and experience to face the challenges posed by an increasingly competitive and uncertain environment (… ) because creativity, like technology, is enabling and transformative.”
