Venezuelan is provisionally detained in Bocas del Toro for alleged rape

A Venezuelan accused of a crime against Sexual Liberty and Integrity in the form of rape, was provisionally detained, reported the Municipal Ombudsman of Isla Colón in Bocas del Toro, after a guarantee control hearing was held.

The representative of the area, Leidys Aranda, based on the elements of conviction collected, supported the denounced fact and the presumed connection with the indicated person, which allowed the guarantee judge Alejandra Ríos to admit to legalize the arrest, formulate the criminal charge and order, after pointing out that this person maintains a weakened ties, due to his immigration status in our country, as well as other procedural risks, that provisional detention be applied as a precautionary measure, which was admitted.

The man was apprehended after an event that occurred on January 21, 2023 at 3:00 in the morning in a hostel on Isla Colón, when the victim, a woman of Swiss nationality, was surprised and abused by a person while she was staying sleeping in this place. It should be noted that the alleged responsible person was apprehended in the act.
