The Venezuelan Foreign Ministry urged Brazil to prevent diplomatic relations between both countries from deteriorating, “for which it must assume respectful professional and diplomatic conduct.”
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Venezuela urged the Brazilian Foreign Ministry (Itamaraty) to desist from “interfering in issues that only concern Venezuelans,” after they issued a statement in which they assured that the interest of the Brazilian government in the process Venezuelan electoral success is due to his role as a witness in the Barbados Accords.
The information was published through a statement this Saturday, November 2, in which they indicated that the government of Nicolás Maduro finds the letter written by the Brazilian Foreign Ministry incomprehensible, in which, in their opinion, they try to deceive the international community.
“The argument of Itamaraty calling themselves witnesses to the Barbados Agreements lacks veracity (…) the aforementioned agreements were exclusively developed by Venezuelans,” reads the letter.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yván Gil, stated that the Brazilian Foreign Ministry “has undertaken a brazen and rude aggression” against the “constitutional president” Maduro, for which he urged to prevent diplomatic relations between both countries from deteriorating, ” for which he must assume respectful professional and diplomatic conduct, as Venezuela has demonstrated through its foreign policy.
For its part, the Brazilian Foreign Ministry (Itamaraty) clarified last Friday that it “fully” respects the sovereignty of each country. In addition to Brazil, other countries such as the United States, nations of the European Union and a large part of the international community do not recognize Maduro’s victory in the last elections on July 28 and continue to demand the publication of the electoral records.
Venezuela summoned its ambassador in Brazil, Manuel Vedell, for consultations after rejecting statements, which it described as “interference and rude”, by Celso Amorim, advisor for international affairs to the Brazilian president, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
Amorim said during an appearance in the Brazilian Congress that “the principle of transparency was not respected” in the Venezuelan presidential elections, so Maduro’s proclaimed victory could not be recognized.
