The Chamber of Industry and Commerce of Táchira pointed out that the slowdown of the national economy maintains the purchase intention of the inhabitants of the border in Colombia, due to the fact that in the neighboring country the same products are obtained as in the border, but at a lower price. price
The president of the Táchira State Chamber of Industry and Commerce (Cciet), Yionnel Contreras, assured that the reopening of the border between Venezuela and Colombia generated great expectations in the commercial field; However, on the Tachirense side, the reactivation of this binational trade has not been perceived.
In his opinion, the slowdown of the national economy has caused the purchase intention to remain in Colombia given that prices in that country are lower compared to those in Venezuela.
“Another element to consider is that if a Colombian comes to Táchira, he will find the same products from his environment and at higher costs, because we have little national production to offer locals and foreigners,” explained the businessman.

In the same way, Contreras explained that there is a significant number of commercial premises that have closed in the region because the tax charges are not adapted or, rather, do not reflect the current economic moment. This has caused the santamarias to drop not only from relatively new businesses, but also from others that have been in operation for several years.
The spokesman for the Táchira Chamber urged those involved to join to generate collective strategies between businessmen, regulatory entities and correct this situation that deteriorates the Tachira economy and jobs.
