Venezuelan authorities began removing containers from the Tienditas bridge

Traffic on the Tienditas bridge between Colombia and Venezuela is expected to be reactivated on Thursday, December 15. It is not yet known if it will only be for pedestrian crossings or for heavy loads, although it is known that the 1st of 2023 is the deadline to allow normal vehicular traffic.

The authorities of the administration of Nicolás Maduro began on the night of Tuesday, December 13, to remove the containers that were arranged on the Tienditas bridge, which connects Venezuela with Colombia, before its imminent reactivation on Thursday the 15th.

It must be remembered that the Colombian ambassador in Venezuela, Armando Benedettihad stated on the fifth day of that month that the bridge would be enabled by mid-December after the Venezuelan authorities finished completing the infrastructure to enable it.

The work was built by both countries in 2016 with an investment of 32 million dollars, but it was never put into service and in February 2019, in the midst of tensions with Colombia and the attempt to enter humanitarian aid by Juan Guaidó, president of the National Assembly elected in 2015 and considered by a part of the international community as president in charge of Venezuela, the Venezuelan Executive decided to put several containers in Tienditas and other bridges to block the passage.

The Vice Minister of Public Works, Juan Ramírez, led the process to remove the 12 containers arranged in the structure. However, it is not yet known if this Tienditas bridge will only be enabled for the passage of people or if they will also allow heavy loads.

The work on the Tienditas bridge to enable the border crossing between Colombia and Venezuela occurs after the Venezuelan president, Nicolás Maduro, expressed the December 12th once again the issue of reactivating relations with the neighboring country and confirming that the borders of the entire west with Colombia and the passage of trucks, cars and motorcycles will be a New Year’s gift for the people of the border.

“We are preparing everything to announce with the promised word of President Gustavo Petro the opening of the border on January 1. We have received the prospects for economic, commercial, cultural and diplomatic development with the triumph of Lula Da Silva in Brazil”.
