MIAMI, United States. – The president of the National Assembly of Venezuela (Chavista), deputy Jorge Rodríguez, announced this Thursday that “the Bolivarian Government, together with State institutions, has decided to release a significant number of Venezuelans and foreigners,” without specifying whether they are common or political prisoners.
In his speech before the Assembly, Rodríguez said that the measure seeks “peaceful coexistence” and asked that it be understood as “a gesture of the Bolivarian Government with a broad intention to search for peace,” “as the contribution that each and every one of us must make to ensure that our Republic continues its peaceful life,” he specified.
The National Assembly confirmed the measure with a publication in Xwithout specifying when the releases would begin.
Neither Rodríguez nor the Assembly indicated how many people will be released, who they are, what nationalities, what centers they were in, under what causes or conditions the releases will occur, beyond the fact that, according to the Chavista official, the process occurs “from this very moment.”
Who has been released?
Enrique Marquez: 62 years old, Venezuelan. He was a candidate in the 2024 Venezuelan presidential elections. On January 7, 2025, days before the presidential inauguration, he was detained by security forces.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Spain reported that five nationals had been released. Diplomatic sources revealed the names to the newspaper The Country:
Andrés Martínez Adasme: Spanish, 32 years old. He was arrested after the presidential elections of July 28, 2025. He was accused of being a CNI agent and of being part of a terrorist conspiracy to assassinate Nicolás Maduro organized by the CIA.
José María Basoa: Spanish, 35 years old. Like Martínez Adasme, he was arrested after the presidential elections of July 28, 2025. He was also accused of being a CNI agent and of being part of a terrorist conspiracy to assassinate Nicolás Maduro organized by the CIA.
Michael Moreno: Spanish, 34 years old. He was captured in June 2025 along with the other crew members of the treasure hunting ship N35 when he was exploring the seabed in waters that Venezuela considers its own.
Ernesto Gorbe: Spanish, 52 years old. He was arrested in 2024 accused of being in an illegal situation due to his visa having expired.
Rocío San Miguel: Hispanic-Venezuelan, human rights defender and president of the NGO Citizen Control for Security, Defense and the National Armed Forces. Professor at the Central University of Venezuela. Arrested in early 2024 accused of conspiracy.
