One of the suspects, Sixto Rafael Marcano Carrión, was handed over to the Trinidad and Tobago Special Investigation Force, which investigates suspected human trafficking crimes. The man was later charged with child trafficking, causing a child to become a prostitute, transporting a person for prostitution, and being a gang leader.

The Trinidad and Tobago Police reported on Monday, October 3, the arrest of the alleged leader of a Venezuelan gang accused of child trafficking and child prostitution, after a “thorough two-year investigation” in that country.

Acting Police Commissioner Donald Jacob explained it’s a statement that “the filing of charges for child trafficking against an alleged leader of a Venezuelan gang” has been achieved.

The Venezuelan, who has not been identified, must appear in the Chaguanas Magistrates’ Court, in Central Trinidad. He is one of four Venezuelans intercepted on Friday, September 30, in the Santa Flora district, in the south of the city.

In this operation, the agents arrested two men and two women who allegedly had a firearm, ammunition and contraband in their possession.

After his arrest, one of the suspects, Sixto Rafael Marcano Carrión, was handed over to the Special Investigation Force, which investigates alleged crimes of human trafficking. The man was later charged with child trafficking, causing a child to become a prostitute, transporting a person for prostitution, and being a gang leader.

“I am pleased that we have made another solid breakthrough as these ruthless criminals cannot feel that they have a free pass to operate in Trinidad and Tobago,” he added.

The commissioner indicated that he “will continue to vigorously pursue and arrest those involved in child trafficking, child prostitution and other heinous crimes that feed off the suffering of the innocent and vulnerable.”

Jacob also congratulated the officers involved in the case “for their hard work and dedication shown throughout a thorough two-year investigation.”
