Venezuelan Armed Forces remain loyal to Nicolás Maduro

Following clashes that have taken place in different cities in Venezuela since Monday calling for a review of the election results in which current President Nicolás Maduro was proclaimed the winner, the Venezuelan armed forces in a statement reported that they remain loyal to the government.

Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino said that “we are witnessing a coup d’état planned by far-right fascists supported by imperial factors, American imperialism and its allies, its lackeys.”

Statues of the late Hugo Chávez have been torn down in various places, while riots in the capital, Caracas, continued throughout Monday night and Tuesday morning, July 30.
