The Armed Forces of Colombia and Venezuela held the first binational meeting on Wednesday with the aim of establishing cooperation issues after the resumption of relations between the two countries.
In the border area of San Antonio del Táchira “the first Meeting of Territorial Military and Police Border Commanders between Venezuela-Colombia takes place, reaffirming ties of brotherhood and establishing strategies to optimize security and defense of the border,” said the Ministry of Defense Venezuelan in their social networks.

The meeting was held in Detachment 212 of the National Guard (GN). It was led by the Defense Minister, Vladimir Godfatherand the Colombian Vice Ministers of Defense for Strategy and Planning, Ricardo Díaz, and for Defense and Security Policies, Rafael Lara Losada.
According to information released by the Venezuelan Ministry of Defense, the officials discussed issues that affect the border area such as smuggling, kidnapping and drug trafficking, among other crimes, in addition to the presence of illegal armed groups in the region.
This agenda opens the military and police agreements between Colombia and Venezuela, which seek a safer and more productive border.
Colombia and Venezuela resumed their relations after the arrival of the leftist Gustavo Petro to the Presidency of Colombia last August, and reopened their common border on September 26, after seven years closed to the passage of vehicles, reported the news agency EFE.
