Venezuela will support reconstruction of supertanker base damaged in Matanzas

Maduro also stressed that the Island “is not and will never be alone under any circumstances,” and will always have “the support of the peoples of the world and sensitive, brave and humanist governments,” the information refers.

Upon learning of the offer of the Venezuelan government to support the restoration of the Matanzas base, the Cuban president expressed his gratitude to Venezuela and his counterpart Nicolás Maduro on Wednesday, also through the aforementioned social network.

“Together again, we will recover what the fire took,” Díaz-Canel tweeted.

According to the official version, the impact of lightning caused a large fire on August 5 in one of the fuel tanks of the super tanker base, which later spread to three others, in addition to generating strong explosions and flames.

In addition to the large material losses, the incident has so far left the balance of two identified deceased and 132 injured, of which 17 remain in hospital centers in Havana and Matanzas, according to the most recent part of the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP).

For now, 14 missing people are counted — mostly firefighters — after one of the big explosions, which occurred on the first morning of the fire.

Experts gathered in a multidisciplinary group carried out this Tuesday a final review of the scene of the incident in search of the remains of the disappeared, and with the help of specialists and international institutions The analysis of the remains and objects found so far has begun for a possible identification.
