The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela celebrated the signing of the ceasefire between the Government of Colombia and the National Liberation Army (ELN), fact registered this Friday in Havana, Cuba.
Through a statement – published in the website of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs -, the country “celebrates the signing of the agreements for the processes of participation of society in the construction of peace and the bilateral, temporary and national ceasefire, reached in this successful day that constitutes a definitive path for peace in our sister Colombia”.
Similarly, as a guarantor country of the negotiations, Venezuela expressed its support for President Gustavo Petro, “for the firm will to promote total peace in Colombia.”
The ceasefire will last for 180 days and can be extended if necessary.
Full installation of said truce is expected to begin on August 3.
It should be noted that the agreement established between the Government of Colombia and the National Liberation Army (ELN) provides for the establishment of the Fourth Cycle of the Dialogue Table between the parties in Venezuela between August 14 and 23, in which a balance of the conventions adopted so far.
It should be remembered that the negotiations between the ELN and Colombia began their first round in Caracas.
Subsequently, the second cycle of talks was held in Mexico, the main point being the bilateral ceasefire.
