Foreign Minister Yván Gil expressed his gratitude to the Group of Friends in Defense of the United Nations (UN) Charter for its message of solidarity in the face of the recent unilateral coercive measures imposed by the United States against the country.

A release The Group of Friends in Defence of the United Nations Charter expresses its rejection of the imposition of unilateral coercive measures against Venezuela. It considers that the measures imposed by the Government of the United States of America affect both the Venezuelan State and its people.
The letter stresses that these actions are contrary to international law and the global democratic order, and that unilateral threats further destabilize Venezuelan democratic institutions, exacerbating the internal political crisis.
The Group of Friends also expressed concern about the adverse effects of these measures on the human rights and well-being of the Venezuelan people. “The unilateral and indiscriminate imposition of these measures negatively affects the entire population, but especially impacts women and children.”
“The Member States of the Group of Friends in Defence of the United Nations Charter reject in the strongest terms the promulgation of this latest set of unilateral coercive measures, which constitute a new direct attack on the inalienable right to self-determination of the Venezuelan people and their democratic system, as part of an ongoing international operation, which seeks to alter the sovereign will of the Venezuelan people, already expressed at the polls, on July 28, 2024, during the most recent elections, in which President Nicolás Maduro Moros was re-elected for the period 2025-2031,” says part of the statement published on Saturday.
Members of the Group of Friends called on the international community to take urgent measures to alleviate the situation and to respect the principles of international law.
