On behalf of President Nicolás Maduro, Foreign Minister Yván Gil expressed his deepest gratitude to Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel for condemning the unilateral coercive measures imposed by the United States on several state officials.
“We express our deep gratitude to the President of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, for his firm rejection of the new unilateral coercive measures imposed by the United States against Venezuela, as well as for his call for the elimination of these illegal sanctions,” said the Venezuelan Foreign Minister in a message published on his Telegram channel.
Minutes earlier, on the same social network, he also expressed his “sincere gratitude” to his Cuban counterpart, Bruno Rodríguez, “for his firm rejection of the new illegal coercive measures imposed by the United States against electoral and judicial officials in Venezuela, who have defended the sovereignty of our nation.”
At noon on Thursday, the US Treasury Department imposed personal sanctions on 16 senior public officials of the Supreme Court of Justice, the National Electoral Council, the Bolivarian National Armed Forces and the country’s intelligence agencies, in response to the neutralization of violent and coup plans, as well as the failure to recognize the election results promoted by extremist sectors of the opposition.
