The Chancellor of the Republic, Yván Gil, thanked on Monday on behalf of the president, Nicolás Maduro, to the Popular Republic of China, through his Ministry of Foreign Affairs, for his firm and determined response to the interception and illegal intimidation by the US Navy of the Venezuelan fishing vessel “Carmen Rosa” in the waters of the exclusive economic zone.
The information was announced by Minister Gil, through a publication on his Telegram channel, where he stressed that this act (US assault on Venezuelan fishing vessel) constitutes a clear attempt to cause a conflict in our region, violating both international law “as our sovereignty and the principle of peace zone that we defend.”
“We deeply appreciate China for its valuable defense of international law and for its call to respect for the internal affairs of Venezuela,” he said.
The spokesman of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Lin Jian, said at a press conference that the United States Actions (USA) in the waters of the Caribbean Sea “threaten regional peace and security”.
After the complaint released by the Venezuelan government about an American destroyer who invaded and occupied for eight hours a Venezuelan fishing vessel, China said that this fact “seriously violates sovereignty, security and legitimate rights and interests of other countries, and violates international law.”
The Asian country joined the pronouncements made by other nations, and urged the US to “not use the fight against drug trafficking as an excuse to undermine the economic security of all countries and the freedoms and rights that they enjoy under international law.”
“China firmly supports the strengthening of international cooperation to combat cross -border crime, opposes the unilateral and excessive use of force and opposes external interference in the internal affairs of Venezuela under any pretext,” said the spokesman of the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
The Venezuelan government denounced on Saturday, September 13, a new provocation by the American Navy, when a destroyer of that country assaulted the fishing vessel Carmen Rosamanned by nine Venezuelan tourt fishermen in territorial waters.
In a statement read by Foreign Minister Yván Gil, it was reported that “he was illegally and hostile by a destroyer of the US Navy, USON DUNHAN USSON, equipped with powerful cruise missiles.”
The Venezuelan authorities affirmed that the occupants were “humble tuna fishermen, who sailed to 48 nautical miles from the island of La Blanquilla, in waters belonging to the Venezuelan exclusive economic zone (Zee).”
