Venezuela supports the denunciations made by Cuba related to the lack of transparency and the conduct manipulative of the European Union in preparation for the Third Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (celac)-EU, which is scheduled to take place in Brussels, Belgium, on July 17 and 18.
The denunciations of Cuba were made by its foreign minister Bruno Rodríguez, who publicly denounced the actions of the EU that seek to torpedo the holding of the summit by trying to impose a format that does not contribute to the “reconstruction of a bi-regional work agenda, aiming at cooperation and reversing the deterioration” in the real integration of the peoples of the region.
These statements were made by the Foreign Minister of the Republic, Yván Gil, who published a statement on his Twitter social network account exposing Venezuela’s support for the claims of the European Union at the Summit of the celac.
“We support the denunciations made by the Chancellor of the Republic of Cuba @BrunoRguezP related to the lack of transparency and the manipulative conduct of the European Union in the preparation of the III CELAC-EU Summit to be held in Brussels on July 17 and 18,” Foreign Minister Gil posted on Twitter.
“The decision of the European Union to impose its own format on the Third Summit would be disrespectful to the main forum for dialogue and cooperation between all the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean, and threatens to lead to failure the efforts made for its organization”, details the statement issued by Venezuela.
These actions by the EU seek, the statement refers, “to minimize the role of the sovereign States of our region”, before which Venezuela reiterates its commitment to continue building an agenda that allows the well-being and development of the peoples.
Cuban complaint
the chancellor of CubaBruno Rodríguez, through his account on the social network Twitter, denounced the manipulative attitude of the European Union before the preparation of the CELAC-EU Summit, which “puts the holding of the event at serious risk.”
For the Cuban Foreign Minister, the European right “intends to hide from the press and public opinion the content of the debates that are organized unilaterally, and parallel forums to the summit.”
He stressed that the European part “decides on its own, even, who will be the representatives of our region in the events. Such a procedure, in addition to being disrespectful, creates the conditions for those forums to become scenes of attacks and singularizations against CELAC member countries”.

“The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela resolutely supports the complaints made by the Foreign Minister of the Republic of Cuba, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, related to the lack of transparency and the manipulative conduct of the European Union in the preparation of the III Celac Summit. -EU, to be held in the city of Brussels, on July 17 and 18, which seriously compromises the success of said meeting.
For several months, under the coordination of its Pro Tempore Presidency, Celac has made important contributions regarding a democratic, inclusive and effective summit format, which would allow the reconstruction of a bi-regional work agenda, aiming at cooperation and reversing the deterioration accused in recent years in our comprehensive relationship. The decision of the European Union to impose its own format on the III summit would be disrespectful to the main forum for dialogue and cooperation between all the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean, and threatens to lead to failure the efforts made for its organization .
The Bolivarian Government rejects the claim of the European Union to minimize the role of the sovereign States of our region, as well as the opacity with which it intends to carry out a series of parallel events, without due coordination with our countries, whose conclusions They could be instrumentalized to feed the agendas of political groups contrary to the objectives that summon us to this important meeting.
Venezuela joins, in the same way, the commitment made by the Cuban foreign minister, to be present at the summit with a constructive spirit and contribute, on the basis of respect, mutual commitment, and cooperation between our regions, in order to build an agenda in the long term, for the shared benefit of our peoples”.
