Venezuela sent 52,000 barrels of oil in September to Cuba in September, the biggest supply of the year

The Oil exports from Venezuela to Cuba reached 5 2000 barrels per day in September (BPD), the highest figure so far from 2025.

According to state documents PDVSA Cited by international agencies, it is one of the largest amounts sent in recent years.

This volume sent to the island coincides with the general rebound of the Venezuela’s crude oil exports, which exceeded one million barrels per day for the first time since February 2020.

The monthly average of shipments abroad was 1.09 million BPD, 13 % more than in August and 39 % above the same month last year, according to a report of Reuters.

The supply to Cuba is close to the levels agreed between both governments in 2000.

Venezuelan oil to Cuba

In January a “historical fall” was recorded in the shipments of Venezuelan crude to Cubawhich descended to about 10,000 barrels per day, less than half of what was received in December 2024.

Although in February the figure showed some recovery, it still remained far from what was agreed at the time by Hugo Chávez and Fidel Castro.

In March of this year, Caracas was close to complying with what was agreed to dispatch 50,000 BPD to the island.

According to another report from Reuters, PDVSA closed 2024 with exports to Cuba of 24,000 barrels per daywhile in 2023 the average had reached 56,000.

In June, Venezuelan oil deliveries to the island were just 8,000 barrels per day.

Crude production in Venezuela ascends

In parallel, PDVSA reported that its crude oil production amounted to 1.1 million BPD in August, the highest level since February 2019.

The increase is due to Use of accumulated reserves and the importation of diluents – mainly from Russia and China—necessary to process the extrapeted oil of the Orinoco belt.

Venezuelan oil continues to have China as its main destination, which absorbed about 84 % of September exports, although Cuba maintains its place as one of the priority receptors in the Caribbean.

This occurs in the middle of the serious Energy crisis for which the island crossesthe tensions of Caracas with Washington and the historic strategic alliance between Cuba and Venezuela.
