Venezuela says confiscation of Nicolas Maduro's plane is a criminal and illegal act

The Venezuelan Foreign Ministry said in its statement that it reserves the right to take legal action to “repair” the damage caused by the confiscation of Nicolás Maduro’s plane.

The Venezuelan Foreign Ministry rejected the seizure by the United States (US) of a plane used by Nicolás Maduro through a statement and stated that this “is a criminal and illegal practice that cannot be described as anything other than piracy.”

According to the Venezuelan authorities, this confiscation by the US shows that “no government is safe from illegal actions that ignore international law.” They also said that the US uses its economic and military power to pressure other states, in this case the Dominican Republic, “to act as accomplices in its criminal acts.”

The Venezuelan Foreign Ministry said in its communication which reserves the right to take legal action to “repair” the damage caused by the confiscation of the aircraft and stated that actions such as the seizure of Maduro’s plane “intend to establish the law of the strongest.”

The United States confiscated the official plane of President Nicolás Maduro on Monday, September 2, based on the US sanctions that this country has on Venezuela.

A US official told CNN “Seizing the aircraft of a foreign head of state is unprecedented in criminal matters. We are sending a clear message here that no one is above the law, no one is above the reach of U.S. sanctions.”

The plane is estimated to be worth around 13 million dollars. The aircraft had been in the Dominican Republic for the past few months, after the presidential elections, when Nicolás Maduro cut diplomatic relations with the country.
