On the morning of Saturday, September 7, the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry published a statement in which it indicated that it was revoking, “immediately, the approval” granted by Brazil to exercise the representation of the interests of the Argentine Republic and its nationals in Venezuelan territory; in the letter it details that the measure is due to the fact that in “the facilities of that diplomatic mission” there is “planning of terrorist activities”
The Venezuelan Foreign Ministry informed Brazil on Saturday morning, September 7, that the approval granted to it to represent the interests of the Argentine Republic and its nationals in Venezuelan territory, including the administration of the embassy and diplomatic residence, had been revoked “immediately.”
“The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela has taken the decision to revoke, immediately, the approval granted to the Government of the Federative Republic of Brazil to exercise the representation of the interests of the Argentine Republic and its nationals in Venezuelan territory, as well as the custody of the premises of the diplomatic mission, including its assets and archives, as announced in the joint statement dated August 5, 2024,” the letter reads.
According to the statement, published by Foreign Minister Yván Gil, the “decision has been notified to the states concerned through diplomatic channels.”

Brazil: “They have to wait”
Earlier, The Brazilian Foreign Ministry said the Rio administration continued to “represent the interests of Argentina. If Venezuela wants to revoke the authorization, it has to wait for the definition of a replacement country. In the meantime, we continue to assume that responsibility.”“, the newspaper reported The Antagonist.
“Venezuela is forced to make this decision, motivated by the evidence that the diplomatic mission’s facilities were used to plan terrorist activities and assassination attempts against the President of Venezuela,” the Foreign Ministry’s statement said.
The Argentine embassy and residence in Caracas have been without gaucho representation since the diplomatic mission in Venezuela had to leave the country in August, by order of the Venezuelan government. Since then, Brazil had taken over the security of the building and the care of the six leaders of the Vente Venezuela party who have been sheltered there since March 20, 2024.
According to the newspaper Argentinian Newsthe administration of Nicolás Maduro “withdrew Brazil’s authorization” to guard the Argentine embassy in Caracas, following the Argentine government’s request to the International Criminal Court (ICC) to request an arrest warrant against Maduro “and other leaders of the regime,” following the presidential elections on July 28.
Also on Friday, September 6, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva asked his Venezuelan counterpart to “prove” that he won the July 28 election. “I think Maduro’s behavior is disappointing,” Lula said in an interview with Difusora radio.
Since Friday night, the residence of the Argentine Embassy in Caracas has been surrounded by officials from the Bolivarian National Intelligence Service (Sebin) and the Directorate of Strategic and Tactical Actions (DAET).
